Artist's Description
The view from the castle. Beautiful morning panoramic over Corfe Castle in Dorset England. Corfe Castle was built near the British coast soon after the Norman Conquest in 1066. In 1643 after being sold by the Crown to Sir John Bankes, it became under siege during a civil war, but the siege was unsuccessful. In 1645 it was again attacked and fell to Parliamentarian forces. It was soon after, in March, that it was demolished. Now owned by the National Trust it is a Grade I protected listed building and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Now open to the public it has captured the public's imagination.
